Etung LGA Chairman Distributes 10,000 Cocoa Seedlings To Farmers
In line with His Excellency, Senator Ben Ayade’s drive in Agriculture and in a bid to boost cocoa production in Etung Local Government Area, The Chairman of Etung LGA, Ntufam, Hon. Comr. John Nkom Etuk today distributed 10, 000 cocoa seedlings to Etung farmers.
The chairman who was represented by Hon. Mrs Franka Njong Ayuk, Vice Chairman of Council said the Hon. John Etuk’s administration was poised to ensuring abundance in cocoa production in the LGA, she also disclosed that Etung has the best variety of cocoa in Nigeria coupled with arable land favorable for cocoa production which is a major cash crop in the country and indeed globally.
The Chairman noted, as a measure towards boosting cocoa production and encouraging farmers in Etung LGA, his administration flagged off the cocoa seedling distribution adding that agro chemicals will also be distributed to the farmers to ward off pests and control black pod disease to increase their yields.
The Chairman, who pointed out that cocoa had been the major source of income for the people of Etung for decades, said the improved hybrid cocoa seedlings distribution would help in reviving cocoa plantation in the area.
The chairman applauded the Supervisor for Agriculture comrade Charles Assam for the role he played for this dream to be achieved.
The chairman also assured Etung people that before the expiration of this dispensation, Etung cocoa plantation will be establish by council.
Responding unbehalf of the cocoa farmers and beneficiaries, Lady Gladys Etta expressed gratitude to the Chairman, she said the initiative was a sustainable economic empowerment that would assist in reviving cocoa foundational farming for the people, furthermore, she said the seedlings would go a long way to boost cocoa production in the LGA, especially if the cocoa seedlings are utilise for the purpose for which there are distributed.
Stakeholders at the event were: The acting Paramount Ruler of Etung HRH Ntufam Raphael Ekuri, Hon Okpa Itayi leader of council and all councillors, Comrade Effa Enagu Secretary of Council, Hon. Orok Ebuta, HRH Ntufam Anthony Ntui Etta 11 Clan head of Ajassor, Hon. Patrick Enagu Okorn Hon Raphael Okorn, Hon. Agbor Mbu and other illustrious sons and daughters of Etung.
All farmers who benefited from this gesture left the premises with ecstasy considering the difficulties and cost of buying an improved variety of Cocoa seedlings if there had gone to buy.
