CRS Gov’t to remodel & upgrade under utilized leprosy Health facility for TB use at Obubra
The cross River State commissioner for Health,Dr Henry Egbe Ayuk PhD has announced his intentions to enroll over five Hundred constituents of Obubra/Etung federal constituency into the Health insurance scheme in cross River State. He equally announced the state Government intentions to remodel and upgrade the under utilized leprosy Health facility at Apiapum ward in Obubra into a facility to render health services for tuberculosis.
Dr Ayuk disclose this during a chat in calabar with members of the Obubra/Etung political Assembly who where on a courtesy visit to his office late hour’s of Wednesday morning being the 9th day of July 2025.
” We are working across bored.God willing before the second quarter of next year we will transform the existing leprosy facility into a standard center for TB treatment. Leprosy is no longer prevalent as it were, hence,no use of the current facilities, that is why we must remodel that place for effective use TB purpose.
On the 15th of August at my home town God willing I will be flagging the health insurance scheme for twenty vulnerable persons each across the twenty one wards that makes up the Obubra/Etung federal constituency for two years. The scheme is sponsored from my personal source”he Said.
The Director General of the Obubra/Etung political Assembly who led the group,Comr Ejeh peter lauded the achievements of the Health Commissioner across the propectrum.
He added that the on going revitalization of over 82 primary Health care facilities in state, the ongoing general hospital project at ikom, the remodeling of the Akpabuyo referral hospital into General hospital and the entire restructuring of the Health ministry is highly commendable.
Equally addressing the Commissioner,Mr Frank Ekpo the community Relations officer for Obubra stated that Dr Ayuk’s long time commitment in humility growth is satisfactory and should be rewarded with greater responsibility.
“I have work with the Honourable commissioner over the years at the JOE foundation for diabetes and I can attest very clearly that he is a very man, hardworking and dedicated to his job. I won’t hear if the commissioner competent is not confirmed. He is due for greater responsibility even within Obubra/Etung federal constituency and will support him”
The Empowerment event to Mark the flag off of the insurance scheme is built to take place on August 15th at Etung LGA with at least twenty beneficiaries from each ward.
In line with the expression of the director General of the group,Mr Atu Alfred a former Banker took time to outline a few programs of the group while commending the giant strikes of the Health sector in the state as being visible to blind and audible to even does that cannot hear.
Apart from Miss Funsi Bassey who also spoke at the event,Hon Priscilla Ekwu use the opportunity in giving the vote of thanks to advocate for women inclusion in political activities.
