The Etung Local Government Area Council of Chiefs, led by its Paramount Ruler, His Royal Majesty, Ambassador Anthony Ntui Etta, has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the re-election of Cross River State Governor, His Excellency Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, and his deputy, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, alongside other candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC), ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The council made its position known on Monday, October 26, during a meeting with chiefs representing the 10 wards of Etung Local Government Area at the council headquarters in Effraya.

Speaking at the meeting, the paramount ruler highlighted what he described as the achievements of the People’s First administration. He particularly noted that Governor Otu, who is also a member of the Etung Council of Chiefs, had received the council’s backing for re-election.

He said the council was prepared to extend its blessings and support to the governor and other APC candidates in the forthcoming elections.

“As a council, we are firmly behind the government of the day and the party that backs it. Our governor is also a member of this council and has performed well so far. Therefore, we are going to give him all our blessings and support,” he stated.

In a unanimous declaration, the chiefs adopted a resolution endorsing Governor Otu, Deputy Governor Peter Odey and other APC candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Before the endorsement, several chiefs, including Ntufam Raphael Ekuri, Ntufam Ojong Takim and Augin Takon, commended the leadership of the council, expressing appreciation for its efforts in advancing the affairs of the traditional institution.

In their separate remarks, they also voiced support for the council’s decision to back APC candidates across elective positions.

Speaking at the event, the Special Assistant on Chieftaincy Affairs in Etung Local Government Area, Mr Charles Mkpe Ojong, thanked the chiefs for preserving the norms, traditions and values of the Etung people over the years.

He urged them to continue upholding integrity and the cultural heritage of their communities, cautioning them against practices that could undermine these values. He also called for sustained support for the APC as the 2027 general elections approach.

The meeting ended with the council reaffirming its stated political position and commitment to supporting the governor, his deputy and other APC candidates in the forthcoming elections.
