Odey Challenges PDP Candidate Eba to Match His Record Ahead of 2027

CALABAR — Cross River State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, has challenged the credibility and political record of the factional Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Barr. Alphonsus Eba, ahead of the 2027 elections.

Odey spoke on Thursday, September 28, when he received members of the Cross River State Political Assembly (CRISPA), led by its Director-General, Comr. Amb. Ejeh Peter, during a courtesy visit to his office in Calabar.

The Deputy Governor said the administration of Governor Bassey Otu had recorded significant achievements in service delivery and development across Cross River State, arguing that the administration’s performance had created measurable milestones in the state’s development landscape.

According to Odey, the people of Cross River State are aware of the administration’s achievements, describing Governor Otu as a thorough and purpose-driven leader who, from the outset, set out to reposition the state for sustainable prosperity.

“The people of Cross River State know that, as a government, we have done well. His Excellency, our Governor, is a very thorough and purpose-driven leader who set out to reposition Cross River State in the direction of prosperity at all levels, and this we have been able to achieve significantly in the last three years.”

Odey also questioned Eba’s political record and challenged him to demonstrate his capacity to compete with him at the polls.

He said Cross River State should not be entrusted to what he described as individuals seeking to exploit the people, while referencing Eba’s political antecedents and tenure as state party chairman.

“Cross River State cannot be allowed to be handed over to people who want to scam our people. I know Alphonsus Eba’s antecedents right from his early days in politics, and his record as state party chairman is also there for people to assess. He cannot match me in any contest.”

Earlier, while addressing the Deputy Governor, the Director-General of CRISPA, Comr. Amb. Ejeh Peter, commended the Otu administration for what he described as quality reforms across various sectors of the state.

Ejeh expressed confidence in the leadership of Governor Otu and Deputy Governor Odey, saying CRISPA believes the administration has provided stability and direction for the state.

He also unveiled plans by the political assembly to mobilise support for APC candidates through a series of mega street endorsement activities in the coming days.

The initiative, according to Ejeh, is aimed at strengthening grassroots mobilisation and support for the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
