The Cross River State Political Assembly (CRISPA), under the leadership of its Director-General, Comr. Amb. Ejeh Peter, has intensified grassroots mobilisation and stakeholder engagement ahead of its planned mega street endorsement of All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates in Cross River Central Senatorial District.
The second edition of the mega endorsement exercise is scheduled to take place on Saturday, October 10, at the Obol Lopon Roundabout, Ugep, in Yakurr Local Government Area of Cross River State.
As part of preparations for the event, CRISPA held a strategic meeting with its chapter and ward executives in Ugep on September 30. The meeting focused on grassroots mobilisation, organisational coordination and strategies for ensuring effective participation across the district.
Following the meeting, the Assembly commenced further consultations with key grassroots stakeholders, community leaders and political actors whose participation is expected to strengthen the mobilisation ahead of the event.
CRISPA Engages Key Yakurr Stakeholders
One of the notable engagements was a courtesy visit to Hon. Christopher Usani, identified as one of the patrons of the Yakurr structure of the Assembly.
The visit provided an opportunity for the CRISPA leadership to brief the former lawmaker and political stakeholder on preparations for the October 10 event and seek his continued support for the initiative.
Speaking during the visit, Usani expressed his support for the programme.
“I am delighted to identify with this group physically today, and I will support the event coming up soon. I have been following the activities of this group, and I must confess to the progress recorded so far,” he said.
Why Ugep?
Speaking on the choice of venue, CRISPA Director-General, Comr. Amb. Ejeh Peter, said the decision to host the event in Ugep was deliberate, citing the strategic importance of grassroots engagement and political visibility in Yakurr Local Government Area.
According to Ejeh, while Ikom serves as the headquarters of Cross River Central Senatorial District, taking the endorsement exercise to Ugep provides an opportunity for the Assembly to expand its grassroots reach and demonstrate its organisational presence across different parts of the district.
He explained that the event is intended not only as a political gathering but also as a platform for strengthening collaboration among the Assembly, grassroots structures, community stakeholders and APC supporters across the senatorial district.
CRISPA Responds to Opposition Criticism
The Assembly has also responded to criticism surrounding the planned endorsement exercise, describing it as part of its political mobilisation and stakeholder engagement activities.
CRISPA maintained that political groups and stakeholders have the right to organise and express their political preferences within the bounds of the law. The Assembly also urged critics to focus on issues and allow citizens and political participants to make their own choices.
Engagement Extends to Health Sector Stakeholder
In a further effort to deepen its stakeholder engagement, the CRISPA team also paid a courtesy visit to Dr. Dan Abubakar, Chairman of the Cross River State Anti-Quackery Taskforce, at his Country Home Hospital in Ugep.
During the visit, the Assembly commended Dr. Abubakar for what it described as his commitment to service delivery and his contribution to efforts aimed at strengthening standards within the Cross River State health sector.
The engagement, according to the Assembly, forms part of its broader strategy of recognising and connecting with individuals making contributions to the development of the state.
The October 10 gathering is expected to bring together CRISPA members, grassroots stakeholders, political leaders, supporters and other participants from across Cross River Central as preparations continue for the mega street endorsement.
